The National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in remote Champion, Wisconsin claims a miraculous past. In 1859 the Virgin Mary appeared to a young immigrant, Adele Brise, at the spot where the shrine now stands. Twelve years later the grounds were miraculously preserved from the Great Peshtigo Fire. This is the only approved Marian apparition site in the U.S. – meaning this is the only place in the U.S. where the Church has confirmed that the Blessed Virgin did appear.
